Police ID Pedestrian Killed In Year's Second Road Fatality

Charlsea Coon, 23, was struck by vehicle while walking against the signal.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Police have identified the pedestrian killed after being struck by a vehicle along East Riverside in the new year’s second road fatality.

Charlsea Coon, 23, was struck by a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on Jan. 14. The vehicle was traveling westbound in the 4800 block of East Riverside Drive and had a green light.

Police say Coon was walking south to north in the crosswalk against the signal when the pickup struck her. She was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge, and died from her injuries three days later.

Police investigators said Coon may have consumed alcohol prior to having been struck. A continuing investigation will attempt to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor.

The fatal traffic crash was the second one this year. At the same point last year, there were five fatality crashes with an equal number of fatalities.
