Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed In East Austin

Bret Treadway, 57, was pronounced dead at 9:52 p.m. on June 7 after being hit by hit at Airport Boulevard and Springdale Road intersection.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a vehicle last Thursday in East Austin.

The incident occurred just before 9:20 p.m. on June 7 at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Springdale Road. A preliminary police investigation shows that a white Buick was traveling southbound on Airport Boulevard, in the outside lane, approaching a green light at the Springdale Road intersection. A pedestrian then entered the roadway north of the intersection before being struck by the car.

The pedestrian was identified as Bret Treadway, 57. He was pronounced dead at 9:52 p.m. on the date of the collision, police said.

The driver of the Buick stopped and stayed on scene in cooperating with a police investigation. No charges are expected against the motorist, police said.

The collision marked Austin’s 25th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 26 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 28 fatal traffic crashes and 30 traffic fatalities.
