Police ID Victim, Suspect In Northeast Austin Fatal Shooting
Police responded to 5600 block of Purple Sage last February where they found man shot multiple times before he died while hospitalized.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the suspect and victim in a fatal shooting that took place in Northeast Austin in February of last year.
The incident dates to Feb. 23, 2017, at 5:10 p..m. along the 5600 block of Purple Sage. Police got a 911 call about a shooting where they found Andrew Lamont Brady, 20, injured on the ground with obvious body trauma from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds, police said in an advisory. Austin-Travis County EMS medics stabilized the victim before transporting him to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment.
Based on eyewitness accounts, Carlos Ray Harris, 29, was determined to have been the shooter. Two days after the shooting, an arrest warrant was secured for Harris for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 2nd degree felony with bond set at $100,000. Harris was arrested the same day by members of the Austin Police Department Gang Unit, according to law enforcement officials.

Brady later succumbed to his injuries — a year to the day since he was shot, on Feb. 23, 2018 — with the cause of death determined to have been complications stemming from gunshot wounds. The manner of death subsequently was upgraded to murder, and Harris remains in custody but with bond increased to $250,000.
