Police: Man Stabbed To Death Trying to Recover Belongings From Apartment

Another man has been charged with murder in the stabbing.

A man is facing murder charges in the stabbing of a man trying to recover belongings from his apartment.

Michael Shane Beam, 42, allegedly stabbed Billy Chad Nolen, 37, outside of Beam’s apartment at 5807 Sweeney Circle, police said in a news release. The stabbing occurred Monday night at 8:09.

When officers arrived at the scene they found Nolen bleeding severely from his body. Police say they found Beam holding a knife — his hands and pants were covered in blood.

Nolen was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m., police said.

Witnesses told Police that Nolen had once lived in the apartment and was attempting to recover some personal belongings left behind. When Nolen tried to get the belongings the two men started arguing and eventually a physical fight ensued. After the fight, Nolen persisted to knock on the apartment door, when Beam allegedly opened the door, this time holding a knife, and stabbed Nolen, police said.

Beam is currently being held in Travis County Jail. His bail is set for $300,000.
