Police Seek Suspect In East Austin Hit-And-Run That Hurt Two Children

The schoolchildren had just been picked up from school when another vehicle struck theirs, pinning them inside.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- Police are seeking assistance from the public in locating a suspect in a hit-and-run incident that occurred this week in East Austin.

To that end, police have released a still image from a nearby surveillance camera of the suspect. They say he goes by the alias "Mae Mae" or "May May."

The failure to stop and render aid crash happened at the 2200 block of Wheless Lane on March 3, police said. A man had just picked his children and their friends from school at about 3:20 p.m., while pulling a trailer containing his bicycle, traveling southbound on North Hampton Drive.

As the man turned westbound on Wheless Lane, another driver struck the trailer. Two children inside the vehicle were pinned inside as a result of the impact, police said in a press advisory.

The driver of the jeep that hit them fled the scene on foot. He's described as an African American, last seen wearing a white tank top and black shorts with white lettering.

The children were transported to Dell Children's Hospital for treatment of injuries not expected to be life-threatening.
