Police Seek Suspect In Rainey Street Sexual Assault In East Austin

A composite sketch based on the victim's description was released in the hopes someone might recognize him and alert police.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Police seek the public's help in identifying a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a woman along the city's popular Rainey Street entertainment district earlier this month. ]

Just before 3 a.m. on May 4, a female victim was walking along in the 80 block of Rainey Street, police said in a Wednesday media advisory. The suspect approached the woman before luring her to a secluded area and sexually assaulting her, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 30 and 35 with a short, buzz-cut hairstyle. He is of stocky build, and was carrying a black messenger-style back pack at the time of the incident.

Police released a composite drawing of the suspect in the hopes someone might recognize him and alert them as to his identity and/or whereabouts.

The case remains under police investigation.
