Springdale Farm In East Austin Slated To Close
"This year brought some unexpected trials in our personal lives," founders wrote supporters. "And our focus must turn in another direction."

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Springdale Farm — credited as being one of the most influential urban farms in Austin — will be closing, its owners said Wednesday.
Owners Glenn and Paula Foore purchased the East Austin property in 1992 before starting the farm in 2009, according to the Austin Chronicle. The couple will sell produce at the farm stand until June, and the East Austin Urban Farm Tour will go on as scheduled in April, according to the report.
The farm's line of bath products, Springdale Handmades, will continue to be offered after the shuttering. The future of on-site restaurant Eden East is less certain, the Chronicle noted in its report.

In their emailed newsletter, the Foores explained the move to their supporters.
"It is with extremely mixed emotions that we want to share with you the news that we will be staring a new chapter of our lives sometime this summer after tomato season," they wrote. "This year brought some unexpected trials in our personal lives, and our focus must turn in another direction. While it was a very difficult decision, we have decided to retire Springdale Farm and move on to the next phase of our lives with a focus on health and family."
