Suspect Charged After Weekend Standoff

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- The man arrested this week after barricading himself inside a building, while keeping police and SWAT members at bay for several hours, has been formally charged.
The Austin Police Department has identified the man as Justin Ray Cottrell, 31, and charged him with two counts: Aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and retaliation. He was being held under a $50,000 bond for the first offense and a $20,000 bond for the second.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a call of a suspect refusing to leave the Metro PCS building in the 5300 block of Cameron Road. SWAT team members later made the scene after the suspect reportedly refused to leave the site.
Police negotiated with Cottrell for several hours before he finally surrendered after 11 p.m. on Sunday.
