Travis County Sheriff's Open House Saturday, May 5

Public invited to attend gathering during which the racial profiling report and inmate services will be discussed.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — We brought you news of an important community open house earlier this week, but thought we'd remind you as it's scheduled today, Saturday, May 5.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office invites the public to a town hall this Saturday to learn about inmate services and discuss details of the most recent Racial Profiling Report. The meeting is scheduled to take place today from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex, 1156 Hargrave St. Topics to be discussed include services provided to each inmate at the Travis County Jail and Correctional Complex based on the screening and classification process, as well as TCSO's 2017 Racial Profiling Report.

The meeting will be moderated by Nelson Linder of the Austin branch of the NAACP.

Travis County Sheriff's Office Building Bridges: Brick by Brick is a community agenda initiative that was formed from a National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) grant awarded to the Travis County Sheriff's Office in 2005.

A group of more than 60 Travis County community members met in February 2006 during a one day summit and made the recommendation to "optimize building bridges" with local communities, law enforcement, media and faith based groups to create meaningful and sustainable conversations. Since then, TCSO and Austin Police Department have carried on the agenda, hosting quarterly town hall meetings.
