El Paso County Sheriff's Office faces over $4 million deficit (kvia.com) — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now facing a projected deficit of more than $4 million, driven largely by salaries, overtime, and jail meal costs. County commissioners responded by shifting $1.5 million for jail meals and $27,000 for courthouse ballistic shields, while over $9 million remains in the department's budget as leaders work to manage growing expenses.

El Paso City Council votes to rename Lincoln Park as Lincoln-El Paso Chicano Park (cbs4local.com) — El Paso City Council has officially renamed Lincoln Park to Lincoln-El Paso Chicano Park, highlighting its role as a hub for Chicano and Mexican-American culture. The change, unanimously approved after a recommendation from the Lincoln Park Conservation Committee, keeps the Lincoln name while honoring the community's heritage and the park's iconic murals in central El Paso.
   

4. Short-term rentals in El Paso will face higher guest fees (ktsm.com) — El Paso City Council has approved changes to start collecting the city's hotel occupancy tax from short-term rentals like Airbnb and Vrbo, meaning guests will see higher total fees on stays under 30 days. The tax, already collected for hotels, will now generate an estimated $3.5 million annually for local government, while platforms—not property owners—handle collection and payment.
   

5. Police investigate shooting near Andress High School in Northeast El Paso (kfoxtv.com) — Police are investigating a Wednesday night shooting in Northeast El Paso near Andress High School, where officers found a man who was taken to the hospital. Activity centered around the 10300 block of Windsor, drawing a significant response near the campus. Authorities have not yet released details on the victim's condition or any suspects.
