Las Palmas Medical Center's new robot-assisted heart therapy (kvia.com) — Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso is now the first hospital in West Texas offering a robot-assisted procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, potentially ending the need for blood thinners for some patients. Surgeons recently performed the life-changing surgery on a local patient, who calls the new option a gift for people in the Borderland living with irregular heartbeats.
3. El Paso Animal Services rescues kitten trapped 20 feet down utility pipe (kfoxtv.com) — El Paso Animal Services pulled off a tricky rescue after a kitten was found 20 feet down a trash-filled utility pipe, then cleaned and evaluated him at the shelter. 5. Local hospitals feel the impact of President Trump's Medicaid fund cuts (kvia.com) — Major Medicaid funding cuts tied to a new federal law could cost University Medical Center about $3.7 million a month and El Paso Children's Hospital about $7.9 million, though both say patient care should remain unaffected for now. Hospital leaders in El Paso are closely watching state and federal negotiations over the CHIRP program as Texas facilities brace for nearly $10 billion in reduced Medicaid support.
