Melting Pot of El Paso at Fountains at Farah closes after 10 years (elpasotimes.com) — A longtime fondue spot, Melting Pot of El Paso at the Fountains at Farah, has closed permanently after 10 years as its lease and franchise agreements ended. The owners thanked El Paso diners for their support and noted that gift cards remain valid at other Melting Pot locations nationwide, while several other local bars and restaurants have also recently shut their doors.
3. El Paso confirms 7th neuroinvasive West Nile case, officials urge caution amid heavy rain (kfoxtv.com) — El Paso health officials have confirmed a seventh neuroinvasive West Nile virus case, involving a hospitalized man from the 79927 ZIP code, and are warning residents to be extra cautious after recent heavy rains. Locals are urged to use repellent, cover up, avoid dusk and dawn exposure, and drain standing water to reduce mosquito breeding, while also reporting problem areas to 311 or (915) 212-6000.
4. Canutillo ISD opens shelters at two campuses to help families affected by storms (kvia.com) — Canutillo ISD has opened emergency shelters at Canutillo High School and Davenport Elementary to help families hit by today's storms in Northwest El Paso County, including Canutillo and Vinton. With support from the American Red Cross and the El Paso City-County OEM, the schools are offering basic services, on-site volunteers, and police security, and will stay open until the district determines they're no longer needed.
5. El Paso police arrest Richard Praytor, accused of 2023 murder of mother (kvia.com) — El Paso police have arrested 49-year-old Richard Praytor, accused of intentionally running over his 79-year-old mother in northeast El Paso in 2023 after initially claiming it was an accident. Investigators later ruled it a homicide, and Praytor was extradited from Colorado Springs and booked into the downtown jail on a $1 million bond.
