El Paso Electric names new CEO amid Kelly Tomblin's retirement (kvia.com) — El Paso Electric is getting a new leader, as Eliecer "Eli" Viamontes steps in as president and CEO on Nov. 9 following Kelly Tomblin's retirement. For El Paso customers, the company stresses continuity in keeping the lights on while continuing Tomblin's push on strategic planning and renewable energy, with her staying through year's end to smooth the transition.
2. El Paso Fire Department hosts 5th annual Fire Fest Oct. 17 (ktsm.com) — El Paso families can head to Veterans Park on Saturday, Oct. 17 for the Fire Department's free Fire Fest, running from noon to 6 p.m. You'll see live firefighting demos, a helicopter landing, kids' activities, health resources, flu shots, child ID cards, and limited-edition giveaways, all while meeting the firefighters and first responders who serve El Paso every day.
3. Crime Stoppers of El Paso's 'Most Wanted' fugitives for the week of Oct. 10 (kfoxtv.com) — Crime Stoppers of El Paso has released this week's list of fugitives wanted by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and El Paso Police Department, and they're asking local residents for anonymous tips. If you recognize anyone, you can call 915-566-8477 or submit information online, and you may qualify for a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest.
4. Local resident creates real-time crossing estimates platform for border bridges (kvia.com) — If you regularly cross between Juárez and El Paso, a new website called Fila de Puentes now shows live wait times for the Paso del Norte, Bridge of the Americas, Ysleta-Zaragoza, Stanton-Lerdo and other crossings so you can pick the fastest route. The platform combines CBP data, cameras and community reports, and currently shows heavy traffic at several key bridges.
5. Hudpeth County confirms: new $15B data center being built near Far East El Paso County (kfoxtv.com) — A $15 billion data center is planned in Hudspeth County just about 15 miles from Homestead Meadows North in far East El Paso County, raising big questions for nearby residents. Officials say it will generate its own power, limit water use, and bring hundreds of construction and permanent jobs, while promising better communication and oversight to protect local infrastructure and resources.
