Join Ranger Payton at Fort Selden Historic Site in Radium Springs, New Mexico, as we harvest and prepare the chiles and vegetables from our foodways garden. Participants will learn the process of roasting chiles, making your own delicious salsa and chile-based sauces, as well as a three sisters stew!
This year’s foodways garden is focused on Indigenous agriculture, specifically, corn, squash, and beans, known as the Three Sisters. The chile garden also tells the story of New Mexican agriculture. 
Cooking outdoors is contingent on weather and fire restrictions. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 16 and younger. Join Ranger Daniel Webb at Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site in Mesilla, New Mexico, to learn about the late Mary Daniels Taylor's photographs of Mesilla. During the 54 years that Mrs. Taylor lived on Mesilla Plaza, she documented many of the religious and secular events that defined the community, ranging from the annual celebrations at San Albino church, to the seasonal planting and harvesting of crops, and the preservation of the town's historic adobe homes and businesses. Join Ranger Payton at Fort Selden Historic Site in Radium Springs, New Mexico, to explore the history of cyanotype printmaking and create a photogram print of your own! Visitors will create their own print on pretreated fabric and paper using flat objects and digital negatives provided by the site, as well as the New Mexico sun. During the program, you will learn about the history and significance of cyanotypes in the 19th century, and the chemical process involved in creating these prints. Mesilla Plaza

Join New Mexico Historic Sites and the Friends of Taylor-Mesilla Historic Site for a FREE Family Day Fiesta on the Mesilla Plaza, New Mexico. In this 4th annual fiesta, expect mariachi music, folklorico dancing, creative and kid-friendly activities, and a chance to explore the culture and history of Mesilla. Bring your hat, umbrella, and sunscreen as you enjoy the performers!

11:30 a.m. - noon – J. Paul Taylor Academy

The Wonders on Wheels Mobile Museum, a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, will also be on the Plaza throughout the day. This year, the mobile museum is touring "The Arts of Democracy in New Mexico," an all-ages, interactive exhibition, honoring the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Highlighting ideals of freedom and self-government embedded in the Declaration, this exhibition traces the development of those same ideals in New Mexico, showing how they have been expressed in art forms such as textiles, newspapers, political cartoons, protest buttons, and zines.
Community partners with booths on the plaza will attend the event, offering activities and educational materials to visitors.
