At its Tuesday meeting, the Forney City Council approved an ordinance updating construction hours within residential areas.

The city posted to social media about the updated hours, in addition to other council actions from this week. Under the rules, residential activities are limited to 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays.

According to the ordinance, construction activities are prohibited on Sundays and federal holidays unless an exception is approved by the city manager or designee.

The changes are intended to help balance continued growth and development with residents' quality of life. Commercial construction activities shall be allowed from the hours of 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will be 8 a.m. until sunset.

Council also approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for a low-interest TxDOT State Infrastructure Bank loan to fund the relocation of wastewater utilities associated with the FM 1641 expansion project.

The financing will help the city move forward with the project in coordination with TxDOT's construction schedule while managing costs through a structured repayment plan.

In other news, Fire Chief John Holcomb presented information on the Forney Fire Department's Transition to First Due. The comprehensive fire service management platform will consolidate scheduling, training, inspections, incident reporting, asset management, and other operational functions into a single platform.

The transition is scheduled to begin on July 1, with a targeted go-live date of Oct. 1. The new platform will hopefully improve efficiency and support the department's continued growth and service to the community.

And, finally, council appointed Sarah Salgado as mayor pro tem for a one-year term. The mayor pro tem is selected by council and serves as the acting mayor when the mayor is absent or unable to perform the duties of the office.
