A Forney City Council race is headed for a runoff after the May 2 election. Here's what voters need to know.

The City of Forney posted the preliminary results to social media on May 2. According to the post, Place 6 voters chose Greg Helm to the tune of 52% over opponents Florelia "Flower" Escamilla (30.68%) and Curtis Evans (16.76%).

Since Helm won with over 50% of the vote, he is elected to represent Place 6.

However, no candidate in Place 4 reached the required majority. That means that the top two candidates, Sarah Salgado and Joseph “Yaz” Yazdanpanahi will advance to a runoff election to be held on June 13.

In other Forney election results, Scott Regan won the Forney ISD Board of Trustees Position 1 seat 65%-34%. Greg Pharris won the Board of Trustees Position 2 seat uncontested with 100% of the vote.

On May 1, the city recognized the retirement of employee Jeff Olson after more than 13 years of service. Olson joined the Public Works Department in 2013 and has been an integral part of the city, serving in a variety of roles throughout his career.

Those roles included technician, crew leader, senior crew leader, street foreman, and street manger. "Jeff is a hard-working, dedicated leader who consistently led by example, and his retirement will be a significant loss to the city," the post states.
