Fort Worth Is Recognizing National Clean Air Month in May

May is recognized as National Clean Air Month, and the City of Fort Worth is celebrating with a month of activities.

The city published a blog post with the details on April 30. According to the post, the month-long initiative encourages residents, business owners, and communities to take part in helping reduce emissions through simple changes like limiting vehicle use, conserving energy, and supporting sustainable efforts.

Residents are encouraged to participate in Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day on May 4. On that day, students, families, and school staff are encouraged to choose active transportation like carpooling.

Air Quality Awareness Week from May 4-8 is a great opportunity to incorporate information about air quality into daily life. And Bike to Work Week from May 11-17 (and Bike to Work Day on May 15) is a chance for residents to choose biking over driving as a more environmentally friendly and healthier way to commute to work.

After the month ends, the city will look ahead to Ozone season (March 1-Nov. 30), during which it will educate residents on the causes of ozone and the effects that emissions from vehicles and industrial sources can have on air quality.

June 5 is Clean Air Action Day, an event that encourages residents to care for air quality and voluntarily take steps, such as carpooling and conserving energy, to help lower ozone levels. Then, Sep. 16 is Ozone Day, which is also known as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. This day serves as a commemoration of international cooperation and progress toward protecting and preserving the Earth's ozone layer.

"Through the many local and nationwide air quality initiatives during the year, the city aims to build momentum, encourage participation, and reinforce a shared responsibility for protecting the air in Fort Worth," the blog post states. "Do your part and help prove that even small changes, when multiplied across a community, can lead to cleaner air for all."
