1. JPS Health Network to Mark One Year in New Psychiatric Emergency Center Location (essentialhospitals.org) — A new freestanding Psychiatric Emergency Center on JPS's Fort Worth campus is transforming how local residents in crisis get help, with faster access, dedicated entrances, and calmer spaces. Opened in September 2025, the center now serves adults, adolescents, and children five and older, partners closely with local EMS and police, and is on track to see nearly 24,000 patients this fiscal year.
2. Fort Worth shelter struggles to aid the city's unhoused population as North Texas heat intensifies (wfaa.com) — Fort Worth's When We Love shelter on East Lancaster is straining to keep unhoused residents safe as more than a week of triple-digit heat batters North Texas. Staff and volunteers are handing out water, ice, snacks, cooling towels, and bus passes to cooling centers, but say demand is outpacing donations. The shelter also serves as a backup cooling center, offering air conditioning and fans to anyone needing relief.
3. Texas Wesleyan University receives invitation to pursue NCAA Division II membership (fortworthreport.org) — Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth has been invited to apply for Lone Star Conference membership, a major step toward moving its athletic programs into NCAA Division II. The shift would boost competition and visibility for more than 650 student-athletes while giving the conference its only campus located in the city of Fort Worth.
4. Body found inside pipe at abandoned Fort Worth power plant, source says (wfaa.com) — Authorities are working to recover a man's body discovered deep inside a water pipe at the long-shuttered TXU North Main Power Plant along the Trinity River, just north of downtown Fort Worth. The recovery could take several days because of the pipe system's complexity, and officials have not yet identified the man or explained how he ended up there. The century-old plant has been abandoned for years.
