Tom Thumb store planned for northwest Fort Worth as area road construction starts (fortworthreport.org) — Northwest Fort Worth is getting a new Tom Thumb supermarket and major upgrades to busy West Bailey Boswell Road, a corridor with past fatal crashes. Construction on the $4.8 million store and nearby retail buildings will start in December, alongside a $29 million road project adding medians, signals, and paths through 2028.

Fort Worth Fire Department gets new interim chief (fortworthreport.org) — Fort Worth is set to install longtime department veteran James Horton as interim fire chief as of Aug. 31, pending a City Council vote. His appointment comes as the city and firefighters' union remain at an impasse in contract talks, making this leadership change especially important for residents and public safety.
3. Fort Worth man jealous of a relationship fatally shot victim, sentenced 30 years (star-telegram.com) — A Tarrant County jury has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 30 years in prison for the 2025 shooting death of a 24-year-old outside a west Fort Worth residence. Police say jealousy over a relationship led to multiple shots fired in a Conejos Drive driveway, and the defendant later admitted to the killing. The case underscores ongoing violent crime concerns in Fort Worth neighborhoods.
4. 'It's Goin' Down' — literally: Fort Worth Convention Center's final send-off set for Sept. 20 (couriertexas.com) — Fort Worth residents will get one last chance to walk through the iconic "flying saucer" Convention Center during a free family-friendly farewell party on Sunday, Sept. 20. From noon doors to 4 p.m., visitors can enjoy music, history exhibits, and concessions while reminiscing before demolition begins in early 2027. The city is also seeking old photos and memorabilia for a historical display tied to a future expansion.
5. Fort Worth mental health nonprofit launches youth trauma and grief collaborative (fortworthreport.org) — A Fort Worth mental health nonprofit is launching a Tarrant County-wide trauma and grief collaborative to better support kids in local schools. Over three years, the effort aims to train 180 clinicians and reach about 1,440 children with evidence-based counseling for loss and trauma, with hopes of improving grades, attendance, and long-term well-being.
