Historic Fort Worth Announces 2026 Cantey Lecture and Preservation Awards (fortworthbusiness.com) — Historic Fort Worth is inviting residents to the 2026 Cantey Lecture and Preservation Awards on October 21 at The Woman's Club of Fort Worth, spotlighting local preservation achievements and honoring the Cantey family's legacy. Attendees will hear Texas Historical Commission preservation chief Bradford C. Patterson discuss "Effective Preservation in Challenging Times" and celebrate award winners protecting Fort Worth's historic character.
2. City of Fort Worth looking to sell downtown buildings to Kent family group (fortworthreport.org) — Fort Worth is moving to sell four major downtown buildings and parking assets near the Texas A&M-Fort Worth campus and convention center to a Kent family–connected firm for $4.3 million, pending council approval Oct. 13. The deal would shift former city office space, including the historic Lone Star Gas Building and its restored blue flame sign, into private redevelopment just blocks from key growth areas.
3. Jurassic Quest bringing life-size dinosaurs, family activities to Fort Worth (desototribune.com) — Families in Fort Worth can explore life-size dinosaurs when Jurassic Quest takes over the Fort Worth Convention Center October 2-4, offering animatronic creatures, science stations, rides and fossil digs. With special sensory-friendly hours Saturday morning and free admission for children under 2, the event is designed to be accessible and engaging for young dinosaur fans across the city.
4. Tarleton State Fort Worth, T3 Partnership Launch Innovation Lab (fortworthbusiness.com) — Fort Worth students and families could benefit from a new Innovation Lab launched by Tarleton State University Fort Worth and the T3 Partnership at TCC's Trinity River Campus, aimed at strengthening career and college pathways. The lab will refine the P2C advising platform, help students explore majors and high-growth careers, and support regional workforce development across Tarrant County.
5. Fort Worth's elite suppressed this novel. More than 80 years later, it's back in print. (wfaa.com) — A once-suppressed 1940 novel about Fort Worth's elite, James Young Phillips' The Inheritors, is being reissued by TCU Press, reviving a sharp critique of the city's wealthy families. Long buried after local backlash despite national praise, the book's return offers Fort Worth readers a fresh chance to reflect on class, privilege, and how much the city's power structures have really changed.
