1. Davey O'Brien Foundation increases scholarship amounts for high school honorees (fortworthreport.org) — Fort Worth students and families should know the Davey O'Brien Foundation is more than doubling its annual high school scholarship support, now offering $50,000 to the winner and $10,000 to each of four finalists. The North Texas-focused program will announce its 2026 winner at a Nov. 17 luncheon at The Fort Worth Club, highlighting scholar-athletes' academic, athletic, and leadership achievements.
2. H-E-B heading to southwest Fort Worth with land purchase (fortworthreport.org) — A major new H‑E‑B grocery store is coming to southwest Fort Worth, with construction set to begin early next year and opening planned for late 2028 at Chisholm Trail Parkway and Oakmont Boulevard. The 20‑plus‑acre site in the Overland community brings the chain closer to downtown and adds to H‑E‑B's growing footprint across Tarrant County and North Texas.
3. Fort Worth could be in line for a $1.3 billion chip testing plant (fortworthreport.org) — Fort Worth may land a $1.3 billion AeternZ semiconductor testing plant on West Everyman Parkway, with City Council set to consider a tax abatement on Oct. 27. If approved, the project would add to a surge of Taiwan-based electronics manufacturers choosing Fort Worth, potentially bringing major investment, jobs, and supply‑chain importance to the city's south business park.
4. Heavy rains force Fort Worth middle school to relocate (dallasnews.com) — Heavy rains have left W. A. Meacham Middle School in Fort Worth unsafe, forcing students and teachers to relocate to the unused Briscoe Elementary campus. Classes are canceled Monday while staff report to Briscoe, and students will join them Tuesday, with officials expecting repairs to take several weeks.
5. Central Market sausage made in Fort Worth now subject to voluntary recall (star-telegram.com) — If you recently bought hot Italian sausage links from Central Market's West Freeway store in Fort Worth, check your fridge. Sausages with UPC 217210806012 and best-by dates from Oct. 2–6 are being voluntarily recalled over possible plastic contamination, and you can return them for a full refund.
