This year, the Latin Club at Harlingen High School South excelled at the Texas State Junior Classical League State competition.

This year, the Latin Club at Harlingen High School South excelled at the Texas State Junior Classical League State competition. All seven students in the team placed and have advanced to compete at Nationals.

Several students earned top spots in the competition. This is the first time since 2014 that the team takes first, second, and third places consecutively.

The 2021 NJCL Virtual National Convention will be hosted from July 24-29 in San Diego, California.

Results for the state competition are listed below:

Senior Evelyn Vega (Gold Medal) – 1st Place – Classical Art History and 9th Place – Sight Recitation

Junior Camila Sanchez (Gold Medal) – 1st Place – Vocabulary and 5th Place – Latin Derivatives

Junior Isabella Silva (Silver Medal) – 2nd Place -Classical Art History and 6th Place – Roman Life

Senior Mairyn Vega (Silver Medal) – 2nd Place – Impromptu Art and 5th Place – Mythology

Junior Mackayla Ledesma (Bronze Medal) – 3rd Place Sight Recitation and 10th Place – Reading Comprehension

Senior Kylie Ruiz (Ribbon) – 8th Place – Roman Life

Senior Kayla Noriega (Ribbon) – 8th Place – Roman History

Maxima Cum Laude: Junior Isabella Silva, Junior Camila Sanchez

Magna Cum Laude: Junior Mackayla Ledezma
