The officers are in stable condition, and the suspect is barricaded in a home on Lockwood Drive in Fifth Ward, authorities said.
HOUSTON, TX — A suspect in the shooting of three Houston police officers near Third Ward on Thursday has barricaded himself in a home in Fifth Ward, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said.
The three officers were shot while attempting to make an arrest near Third Ward at the intersection of McGowen and Hutchins Streets, police said.
The shooting occurred after a car chase ended in a crash. The suspect shot at officers with a fully automatic weapon as soon as they got out of their patrol cars. One of the officers was shot in the arm, another in the leg and another in the foot, according to Finner.

Police said the officers were shot while attempting to arrest a man who had “shot up” his girlfriend’s house, according to the Houston Chronicle. The three officers were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital and are in stable condition, Finner said.
Following the shooting, the suspect carjacked a white Mercedes and was pursued by other police officers to the 1800 block of Lockwood Drive in Fifth Ward. He barricaded himself in a single-family home and has exchanged gunshots with officers multiple times, according to Finner. It's unknown if the suspect is injured.

Houston Police Department SWAT and negotiation units are negotiating with the suspect, and multiple law enforcement agencies are also at the scene, according to Finner.
The suspect has been identified as Roland Caballero, according to a KHOU 11 report citing police sources.
The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents this week in which Houston-area law enforcement officers were shot or killed. Harris County Precinct 5 Corporal Charles Galloway was shot and killed during a traffic stop Sunday, and Sgt. Ramon Gutierrez of the Harris County Sheriff's Office was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Monday.
"We're just grateful to God they're alright," Finner said. "It's been a tough week for law enforcement in our city."
