The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Houston.

Wake up, Space City! It's me, Chris, your humble servant of the Houston Daily — coming right back at you with the plug on what's happening.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and very warm. High: 96 Low: 80.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Houston who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Houston Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Houston:
- A Houston woman called 911 after shooting and killing a man she claimed was being "sexually aggressive". By the time officers arrived to the motel crime scene, the woman had fled. She is believed to have driven off in a silver late-model Cadillac CTS SUV. The gun used to kill the supposed sexual aggressor was left at the scene of the crime. Houston police are currently continuing the investigation. Whatever the truth of the matter, calling the cops on yourself just to flee the scene is an interesting criminal strategy to say the least. (Houston Chronicle)
- Initial polling results point to the race for Harris County Judge being too close to call. Incumbent Judge Lina Hidalgo was only shown to be up a single percentage point according to the University of Houston. The poll also showed that black voters overwhelmingly supported Democratic incumbent Hidalgo while white voters favored Republican and newcomer Alexandra del Moral Mealer. (KPRC Click2Houston)
- Record heat and a worsening state-wide drought will soon lead to higher water bills. If you wish to track your water use status, you can sign up for Houston's Consumption Awareness Program. This program notifies users any time their water bill increases. Additionally, if you believe your water bill is incorrect or you're experiencing a water issue you can call HOUSTON 3-1-1 to have the city investigate. Unfortunately, current investigation wait times run anywhere from seven to fourteen days. (Houston Style Magazine)
- A man charged in a Houston murder case dating back to 2004 has been extradited from Mexico and now awaits trial. 53 year-old Antonio Davalos is accused by multiple witnesses of shooting and killing Santiago Gonzalez on Aug 19. 2004. The leader of the DA's Fugitive Apprehension Section, Kim Bryant, said, "We're pleased to see this defendant brought back to face justice, and now we have the potential for closure for the victim's family." Even Mexico isn't a safe haven from the long arm of the Houston law. (KTRK-TV)
- The summer heat is no stranger for Houston, but this year has been hotter than ever. May, June, and now July have all had record-setting heat for some of the warmest months in our city's history. Climate data shows that by the year 2100, the average summer high temperature will increase 6.4 degrees to 101.4. The time to take climate change action is now.
