Hello, everybody. Chris here with your fresh copy of the Houston Daily, filled with all the community news you need to know right now. Including updates on:
- New art at Houston airports.
- A clean energy scientific breakthrough.
- Dining options for Christmas.
But first, today's weather:
Cooler; a morning shower. High: 64 Low: 43.
Here are the top stories in Houston today:
- Mayor Turner joined the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and Houston Airports yesterday, unveiling 10 commissioned pieces of art at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports. The City of Houston commissioned the pieces in June 2020 at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. The art designs vary between huge sculptures, hanging works, portraits, and even an over 200-foot long entrancing mural. All 10 installed pieces are meant as permanent works that will showcase Houston's love for and support of art. (KPRC Click2Houston)
- The U.S. Department of Energy announced yesterday that they reached a new milestone in the development of carbon free energy from nuclear fusion. The milestone reached yesterday has been decades in the making with scientists finally managing to successfully produce a net energy gain from the fusing of two atoms. The experiment in question put in 2.05 megajoules of energy and returned 3.15 megajoules output: a more than 50% gain. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said, "Ignition allows us to replicate, for the first time, certain conditions that are only found in the stars and sun. This milestone moves us one significant step closer to the possibility of zero-carbon, abundant fusion energy powering our society." (KTRK-TV)

On Christmas Eve, the Backstreet Cafe on South Shepherd will serve a three-course holiday meal including red wine, roasted tenderloin, and lobster risotto. Of course, complimentary eggnog will also be included. Hugo's on Westheimer will be offering a buffet while Pier 6 Seafood & Oyster House on 6th is firing off a happy hour all day alongside an appearance from Kris Kringle himself. On Christmas Day, The Warwick in the Galleria will open for brunch while Israeli restaurant Hamsa on Morningside is providing complimentary fried donuts. - Canada-based coffee shop Tim Hortons is building a new location in Northwest Houston off of highway 290. Founded by and named for hockey player Tim Horton in 1964, the Canadian style coffee brand broke into the Texas area with a location in Katy earlier this year. As the establishment of a second location hints, there must be something to how our northern neighbors prepare coffee and piping hot breakfast foods. Considering how cold the weather gets in Canada, there must be some kind of special ingredient to help people break out of their frozen sheets. The new location is expected to open in early 2023. - Suspect Patrick Clark is accused of shooting Migos rapper Takeoff to death and is now appealing courts to reduce his currently set bond of $2 million. Kirsnick Khari Ball, better known as Takeoff, was shot to death in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 outside of a downtown bowling alley. Police say he was an innocent bystander in a dice game where an argument eventually led to the shooting. The state set the bond so high due to evidence that Clark is a flight risk as he planned to flee to Mexico before police apprehended him. Furthermore, police are convinced Clark is a danger to the community. However, Clark's lawyer claims the bond amount is "extremely excessive" and impossible for your average Harris County citizen to pay. (KTRK-TV)
