Astros To Sport Nicknamed Jersey’s For Player’s Weekend

HOUSTON, TX — Baseball fans will likely being doing a bit of a double take, and even get a chuckle or two when players around the league will be sporting special uniforms that feature nicknames on the backs of the jersey, rather than just their last name.

The uniforms, which will also feature some vibrant colors in some cases, will be worn during the inaugural player’s weekend in Major League Baseball from Aug. 25-27.

Thus, the weekend will feature a bull, a dragon, and a moose in the Houston Astros’ batting order, according to a KPRC report.

Some monikers, such as Ground Chuck, Showrrea, and Fuego are as colorful as those orange and columbia blue uniforms the Astros will be wearing.

Others on the roster include:

• Jose Altuve: "TUVE"
• Chris Devenski: "DEVO THE DRAGON"
• Carlos Beltran: "IVAN"
• Ken Giles: "100 MILES GILES"
• Alex Bregman: "A-BREG"
• Jake Marisnick: "BIG FUDGE"
• Marwin Gonzalez: "MARGO"
• Collin McHugh: "SNAP DRAGON 2"
• Josh Reddick: "RED DAWG"
• Yuli Gurriel: "EL YULI"

Meanwhile, Dallas keuchel, George Springer and Brian McCann will just have their names on their jersey’s, according to MBL.com

Players will also be able to wear colorful accessories such as batting gloves, wristbands, sleeves, bats and catcher's masks.

Game-worn Players Weekend jerseys will be available at MLB.com/auctions, with 100 percent of the proceeds going toward the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation, a joint effort established in July 2015 to improve the level, effect and ability for kids to play amateur baseball and softball in the U.S. and Canada, MLB.com reported.
