Astroworld Festival Deaths Up To 9 After Texas A&M Student Dies
Bharti Shahani died Wednesday evening from injuries sustained in the crowd surge at Astroworld, according to the family attorney.

HOUSTON, TX โ Bharti Shahani, the Texas A&M student who was showing no brain activity this week after suffering injuries at the Astroworld Festival on Friday, has died, the family attorney confirmed at a news conference Thursday.
Shahani, who was a 22-year-old senior at A&M, was declared dead around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, the attorney, James Lassiter, said.
"Bharti is love," Shahani's mother said in the news conference. "She was a blessing. Where is my blessing now? I want my baby back."

"The Aggie family is deeply saddened to learn of Bhartiโs death. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends," Texas A&M spokesperson Kelly Brown told Patch. "We encourage our campus community to be kind and patient with themselves and others as everyone experiences grief in different ways. We also encourage anyone struggling to lean on their peers and professionals who are here to listen and help."
Lassiter said no one representing headliner Travis Scott or the organizers of the festival have reached out to the family.
Shahani's sister, Namrata Shahani, was at the concert with her and their cousin, Mohit Bellani, when they were separated by the crowd surge. Namrata said it was their first music festival together, and it never occurred to them that they would never make it back home that night.
"It hurts because she was not only my sister but my best friend," Namrata said. "I don't know what I'm going to do right now. I'm still not able to process what happened on the night of Nov. 5. It still feels like we're living that night."
Bellani said he was the first to see Bharti at the hospital in the aftermath of the crowd surge.
"I want to say there are no words to describe it, but there are. Nightmare. Horror. Barbarity. Catastrophe," Bellani said. "I think the word that should be used is atrocity. This was an act of pure brutality. If the organizers and Live Nation had done their job ... they did this to Bharti. They did this to the 9-year-old boy in the ICU. They did this to the other eight people who have died. Pray for them. Pray for us. Pray for everyone who lost their lives that night. Pray for everyone who experienced that hellish experience and somehow survived."
Bharti Shahani's organs will be donated, the family said.
Family members described Bharti Shahani as a generous and caring person who took her studies seriously and enjoyed helping others. Namrata Shahani said the music festival was a rare time that she took to have fun for herself.
"That was taken away from her," Namrata said.
