Diamond Alvarez Killing: Suspect Released On $250K Bond

Frank DeLeon is accused of shooting girlfriend Diamond Alvarez 22 times, killing her. He was released on $250,000 bond Wednesday.

HOUSTON, TX — The teenage boy accused of shooting and killing his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend last week was released from custody on $250,000 bond, court documents show.

Frank DeLeon Jr., 17, was arrested Monday and charged with murder. He is accused of shooting Diamond Alvarez 22 times while she was walking her dog in her southwest Houston neighborhood on Jan. 11.

DeLeon was in a relationship with Alvarez and another woman, investigators said. When Alvarez found out about the other relationship, she met with DeLeon, who shot her and fled on foot, according to authorities.

A Change.org petition calling for DeLeon's bond to be revoked had over 4,500 signatures as of Thursday afternoon.

"We ask that bond is revoked until [DeLeon] is sentenced for the families that are grieving Diamond's loss," the petition reads. "We are asking #JusticeforDiamond, being that there's evidence that has been collected and presented. We ask that the changes that can be made are done by all or any who can make it happen."
