Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. Disney Imagineers are bringing Disney fairy tales to life at Houston's Texas Children's Hospital. Interactive technology across the hospital will now allow patients to spend time with their favorite characters. Patients who want to take advantage of this opportunity can wear a magical Disney bracelet that lets them personally select the Disney content and characters they want to see. Hospital workers and Disney alike hope that the inclusion of these star-studded characters will make children's stays in the hospital more comforting. (KTRK-TV)
  2. Republican Texas Senator John Coryn is taking a stance against his own party and pushing for a gun control bill. "Doing nothing is not an option" said Coryn. "No parent should be afraid to send their child to school, no grandparent should be afraid for their grandchild to go to school, and a child shouldn't be afraid to be in school." Coryn's departure from the party's regular support of the Second Amendment comes in lieu of the Uvalde shooting that left 21 people dead, 19 among them students. (KPRC Click2Houston)
  3. 24-year-old Houstonian Victor Robles has taken to the streets in search of a kidney donor. While Robles is on a transplant list, the results of his blood tests have revealed that he will be waiting a very long time to get a kidney through these means, if he ever gets one at all. Consequently, Robles has begun to take to street corners after work where he holds up a sign asking for a kind soul to help him. Despite his dire situation, Robles remains faithful that his plea for help will not go unanswered. (KHOU.com)
  4. This past Saturday the city of Houston held its first annual no questions asked gun buyback event. 845 guns in total were handed over the Houston Police Department and nearly $100,000 in gift cards were given out in exchange. Each gun given away could earn previous owners an up to $200 gift card credit. So many people turned out to surrender their guns that the buyback had to come to a close before they could serve every customer. A second gun buyback event is already in the works. (KHOU.com)
  5. The Good Morning America search for America's Best Burger showdown at Saint Arnold's Brewery last week saw a unanimous vote for Bun B's Trill Burger to advance to the grand finale in New York. "I couldn't be more proud to represent Houston in the biggest burger battle in America," Bun B said. "I put this city on my back ever since we started UGK, and I am going to continue to carry it culturally, not just in music, but now in food. Let's go, baby." H-town represent! (CultureMap Houston)
