Driver Killed When Truck Tire Smashes Through Windshield

Investigators said a tire came of a truck traveling south in I-45, and hit a northbound SUV, killing the driver.

HOUSTON, TX —A freak traffic accident early Tuesday left one person dead and tied up traffic on the Gulf Freeway at the start of morning rush hour.

Investigators said a truck that was traveling south lost one of its tires, which went airborne over a concrete barrier into northbound traffic, KTRK reported.

The tire smashed through the windshield of an SUV traveling northbound on I-45, killing the driver, KHOU reported.

The accident caused delays in both directions.

Police have not released the identity of the person killed.

The Houston Police Department is investigating the accident.
