Eagle’s Trace Treasure Chest Celebrates Milestone
Resident-led re-sale shop has raised $500,000 since 2006

Houston, Texas—Established in 2006, the resident-led Treasure Chest is one of the longest-running service organizations at Eagle’s Trace, the Erickson Living retirement community in West Houston.
The Treasure Chest provides residents and families an opportunity to conveniently downsize and donate items such as furniture, kitchenware and decorations for re-sale. In turn, employees and residents enjoy the chance to purchase these items at greatly reduced prices.
Last week, the community commemorated a major milestone: the Treasure Chest reached $500,000 in sales since 2006, an average of nearly $40,000 per year. Residents celebrated the achievement with a champagne toast and a day of fellowship.

Nearly all of the proceeds from Treasure Chest sales are donated to three important causes at Eagle’s Trace: the Resident Care Fund, the Staff Appreciation Fund and the Student Scholars’ Fund. The Treasure Chest has also supported special projects involving the Wildflower Garden and the Wii Bowling Group as well as the Hurricane Harvey Employee Relief Fund in 2017.
Pat Coatsworth is a member of the group’s nine-person Board of Directors. “The Treasure Chest has become a campus-wide effort among the residents. Our group of nearly 100 volunteers represents every resident building,” noted Ms. Coatsworth. “The effort is labor-intensive, but rewarding. It’s fun to know that we’ve helped employees furnish apartments and even dorm rooms for their children. We’re proud to have grown into a true service organization, and we look forward to reaching more milestones in the future.”
