Enbridge Cutting 1,000 Jobs In Post-Spectra Merger Move
The cuts will affect positions in Houston and Calgary, officials said Tuesday.

HOUSTON, TX -- Canadian-based Enbridge Inc. has announced a six percent reduction in their workforce, which amounts to about 1,000 employees.
The cuts, which will affect staff in Houston and Calgary, comes in the wake of the company’s acquisition of Houston’s Spectra Energy in February.

Officials have not indicated exactly how many jobs will be affected, but it will likely be in the hundreds, with many of those positions overlapping within both organizations.
The new cuts did not affect senior leadership, which was already cut earlier this year.

The acquisition created a $126 billion energy giant, with Enbridge gaining a 90,000-mile network of gas and natural gas liquid pipelines from Spectra.
Meanwhile, Enbridge’s remaining 700-plus Houston area employees will move from their downtown building at 1100 Louisiana Street, to Spectra’s old headquarters on Westheimer Court by the end of 2017.
