Ex-Dentist Charged With Causing Brain Damage To 4-Year Old Patient Appears In Court

Dr. Bethaniel Jefferson was indicted July 24 for intentionally and knowingly by omission causing serious bodily injury to a child

HOUSTON, TX — A former Houston area dentist accused of causing irreparable brain damage to a 4-year old patient in January 2016, made her first court appearance on Monday.

Bethaniel Jefferson, 40, was indicted on July 24 by a Harris County Grand Jury on a felony charge of intentionally and knowingly by omission causing serious bodily injury to a child by failing to seek and provide adequate medical attention.

Jefferson turned herself in to authorities at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office last week, short after the indictment was announced.

Jefferson’s attorney, Morgan Bourque, said Jefferson has sympathy for the child and her family, and reminded the court that his client was innocent until proven guilty, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Jefferson, who is free on bond, was ordered to not consult on or practice dentistry s a condition of her bail.

Jefferson is accused of over-sedating Nevaeh Hall during a routine dental procedure to have a tooth removed.

Since the incident Hall has been confined to a wheelchair and is unable to speak, walk or respond to ay instructions.

Jefferson, who formerly owned Diamond Dental in Spring, lost her license to practice dentistry in November.
