12 Pre-School Children Injured Conducting Experiment At Houston Daycare

Officials: children possibly suffered chemical burns fduring experiment.

HOUSTON, TX — Several children who were conducting an experiment at a daycare center in the Memorial area have been injured, officials from the Houston Fire Department said Tuesday.

The incident was reported at the Yellow School at the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, located in the 200 block of Blalock Street. (Want to get daily updates about traffic news and other events going on in your area? Sign up for the free Houston Patch morning newsletter.)

According to a KPRC report, several children who were all about 3-years old, were conducting a science experiment outside the daycare, when something happened to set off a reaction or explosion.

At least 12 children and one daycare employee were injured, with 11 of those children suffering some type of chemical burn, officials said.

KTRK reported that the children were burned as a result of a flash blast, with six of the injured children taken to an area hospital, and one of the children who was injured was trampled by classmates who were rying o run to safety.

According to various media reports, several children were carried away to emergency vehicles immdiately after the accident.

Six of those victims were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment, officials said.
