Former Texans Wideout Andre Johnson Retires

In his 14 seasons, Johnson caught 1,062 passes for 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns

HOUSTON, TX -- Former Houston Texans Wide Receiver Andres Johnson, announced his retirement from the NFL, closing the book on one greatest receivers in NFL history.

Johnson, 35, who spent the first 12 years of his career in a Texans uniform, informed the Tennessee Titans in a meeting today that he was leaving the game.

In the first eight games this season, Johnson had nine catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns with the Titans.

Johnson, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, was the Texans' first-round pick in 2003, the third overall pick in the draft taken out of the University of Miami.

He had five seasons with at least 100 catches and seven with at least 1,100 yards.

"I'd love to see Andre in the Hall of Fame," owner Bob McNair said. "That would be terrific. I think he deserves to be there. It'd be a reflection on what we have done with our franchise in that we've produced a player who was of that quality."

In 2015, the Texas released Johnson who then signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

Johnson had 41 catches for 503 yards and four touchdowns as a Colt last season, before he was released, and ultimately signed by the Titans in the off-season.

Johnson's announcement came a week after another former Texans great Arian Foster announced his retirement.

In his 14 seasons, Johnson caught 1,062 passes for 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns. He ranks ninth on the NFL's all-time list for catches and 10th for yards.

"Going back to his days at the University of Miami, Andre was one of the most impressive wide receivers I've scouted," Titans general manager Jon Robinson said in a statement. "He had a professional approach to the
game both on and off the field, and in my opinion, is one of the best to have played the game."
