Free Glasses to Houston Students Affected by Hurricane Harvey

Visionworks has given away more than 600 vouchers for free prescription glasses to students affected by Hurricane Harvey.

There were a lot of immediate needs that had to be met in the initial days of Hurricane Harvey; however, weeks after the hurricane, there is still an incredibly large demand for ongoing relief efforts. Many Houstonians affected by Hurricane Harvey have lost so much – and for many students, this includes their glasses. This is why Visionworks partnered with school districts across Houston and the gulf to provide students who lost their eye glasses in the storm with access to a free comprehensive eye exam and free pair of prescription glasses through the Let's Go See initiative.

So what is Let’s Go See? Let's Go See is a national movement to raise awareness of the importance of annual eye exams for children as part of their yearly health routine. Many parents wait until their child has expressed an issue with their vision before taking them for an eye exam, but according to Prevent Blindness America, 1 in 4 school-aged children in the United States has a vision problem, which if left untreated can affect learning ability, personality, and adjustments in school. Visionworks launched the Let's Go See program in 2015, and has pledged to provide 15,000 free eye exams and glasses to children in need each school year.

"The Let's Go See program has been instrumental in our efforts to spread awareness of the need for annual eye exams for school-aged children. We feel honored to help families receive eye exams and glasses for their children, and look forward to continuing our mission every year," said Sue Hopeman, EVP, Chief Merchandising Officer for Visionworks.
