George H.W. Bush's Dog Sully Sits Sadly By Casket In Photo

Sully had been by Bush's side since June when he received the dog from the the nonprofit group America's VetDogs.

HOUSTON, TX -- Some photos are worth a thousand words while others are worth a thousand tears. One such photo was of President George Herbert Walker Bush's service dog Sully who was photographed while resting in front of the 94-year-old's casket in Houston. The photo was posted on Sully's Instagram page Sunday evening with the message "Mission complete."

The photo has since collected 85,000 likes and more than 6,000 comments.

"This is why they refer to dogs as man's best friends," rogerstephenroth commented on Instagram.

Sully had been beside Bush since June when he received the dog from the the nonprofit group America’s VetDogs, Buzzfeed News reported. Sully will return to VetDogs before being sent to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he will work with troops receiving therapy.

Sully attended Bush's funeral in Washington, D.C. Tuesday afternoon.

Bush, who served as president from 1989-1992, died Friday. He will be buried in his family plot behind the Bush Library at Texas A&M alongside his wife, Barbara Bush, who died earlier this year. The plot is also home to their daughter, Robin, who died in 1953 at the age of 3. The university is also home to The Bush School of Government and Public Service.

The president's casket will arrive in College Station on Thursday. Congressional leaders in Washington D.C. announced that Bush will lie in state at the United States Capitol from Monday. Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. to Wednesday. Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Trump and first lady Melania Trump will attend Bush's funeral at National Cathedral in Washington D.C.
