Harmony Public Schools Parent Wins 2026 Heroes for Children Award

HOUSTON – A Harmony School of Excellence–Sugar Land Elementary parent has been named a recipient of the 2026 Heroes for Children Award, recognizing her exceptional commitment to students, staff and the school community.

Dr. Amirah Rimal is one of only 15 recipients statewide to receive the 2026 honor. She represents State Board of Education District 7 and is being recognized for her outstanding service and unwavering support of Harmony School of Excellence–Sugar Land Elementary.

In addition to receiving the Heroes for Children Award, Rimal was named the school's 2025-26 Parent of the Year and currently serves as president of the Parent-Teacher Organization.

"This award is not just a personal honor; it reflects the dedication of an entire school community that believes in lifting one another up," Rimal said. "I hope this recognition encourages more parents and community members to get involved, because even the smallest act of service can make a meaningful difference in a child's life."

The Heroes for Children Award recognizes parents and community leaders who make significant contributions to public education across Texas. Recipients are selected from each State Board of Education district for their leadership, volunteerism and dedication to improving educational opportunities for students.

Rimal and the other 14 award recipients will be honored during the State Board of Education's general meeting Sept. 4, 2026, in Austin.
