But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and beautiful. High: 79 Low: 62.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Houston who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Houston Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. The 7th annual Heart Walk is expected to draw crowds in the thousands to Northeast Houston as the events shoots for raising nearly $300,000 to fight heart disease. The walk itself is a 3-mile uncompetitive stroll where participants can even bring their dog to join them. The event will start at 8 a.m. on Nov 19. and feature bounce houses, vendors, treats, giveaways, medical screenings, and more. Lone Star College - University Park is hosting. The school's director of communications and media Shelley Steagal said, "It hits home because we have several people in the college that are affected by heart diseases. It's not just an event we host to help the community; it hits home with a lot of our workers and staff as well." (Houston Chronicle)
  2. Stony coral tissue loss disease has devastated coral reefs in Florida and and the Caribbean; Houston researchers are now worried that the disease might have made its way to Galveston bay. A protected area known as Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary lies about 100 miles off the coast of Galveston. Recently, divers have noticed white lesions on sections of the coral which look familiar to stony coral tissue loss. Corals infected with this life threatening disease typically die in weeks, however, the corals in Flower Garden Banks seem to be holding up. Researchers have begun taking samples of the corals in order to get a better understanding on what's causing the white lesions, but coral research is far from well-developed. At the moment, experts say that only time will tell us the severity of this outbreak. (Houston Public Media)
  3. Barstool Sports' "One Bite Review Series" visited Houston last week and providing ratings on some of Space City's popular pizza joints. One Bite is a series of social media shorts where host Dave Portnoy ranks pizza joints on a scale of 1-10 across the country. The series has become incredibly popular in recent months, and many pizza fanatics consider Dave's ratings to be the holy word of the pizza community. Despite Frank's pizza in downtown being a very popular and beloved Houston pizza joint, Dave was far from impressed and said, "This is drunk pizza. I don't know what to say. Like, I don't know what else to say. I love Houston, the people have been great. I cannot lie. Love me, hate me, I cannot lie; it's a 5.4, that's our review." However, he later visited local pizza joint Gypsy Poet in Midtown and found it to be much more to his liking, "This is 10 minutes after it came out of the oven. I'm going to go 7.8, and I think this would've had a legit chance to be in the 8's if I had it fresh." (FOX 26 Houston)
  4. As today marks National Beer Day, let's take a look into Houston's national standing in the craft beer scene. Recent data from the Brewers Association shows that craft beer has ballooned across the country in the past decade. There were only around 2,000 craft breweries in 2010, however, now the U.S. hosts over 9,000 craft breweries which account for 99% of all breweries in the country. Among this burgeoning craft brewing scene, Texas holds a spot in the top ten states with the most craft breweries having a total of 406 breweries statewide. While that might seem like a lot, California holds the number one spot for most craft breweries with a grand total of 931: more than double what the Lone Star state has to offer. (Houston Chronicle)
