Holiday Activities for the Family in Houston

Here's how to get into the Christmas spirit around the community…

The holiday season is officially among us which means it’s time to deck the halls and get into the holly jolly spirit. While all of these festivities can be fun, it can be exhausting trying to entertain children for the days they're off of school.

Luckily, there are countless winter traditions and activities that make occupying little ones a little more manageable. On top of this, these are opportunities to get out in the community and make family memories that last a lifetime. The only problem is there are so many options for winter activities that it can be hard to decide which ones to fit into your schedule!

If you’re in need of help picking what to do with your family, a recent report by Next Day Blinds mapped out the most popular seasonal activities in each state across the US. From holiday volunteering to pictures with Santa, there is no shortage of activities Americans love to do this time of year.

But as far as local Texans, the go-to is apparently a Christmas light drive. As they say, everything is bigger in Texas, so it should come as no surprise that people love to see the amazing light displays in the community.

There is truly no shortage of holiday light displays in Houston, so this winter rite of passage should be a breeze to fulfill. The Woodlands Town Center, CityCentre, and Uptown Houston are all great options for scenic views to get your family in the holiday mood.

Of course, there’s always the option to simply drive around your neighborhood and admire the beautiful displays put up by your neighbors. They may not be professionally done, but that doesn’t make them any less spectacular. Some of the best finds are the houses tucked away in quaint Houston neighborhoods and villages. Pile the family into the car in their best Christmas pajamas and go exploring!

The best part about this activity is that it’s for the most part completely free. With the exception of some of the ticketed public light shows, there are very minimal costs associated with Christmas light drives. While a lot of Christmas activities can be tough on the wallet, this is not one of them.
That means you can go exploring time and time again. Each time you set out you’re sure to find a new display that’s bigger and brighter than the last!

If lights aren’t your thing, there are tons of other Houston local activities to get into the holiday spirit this December. There may not be enough snow to build a snowman or go snow tubing, but that doesn’t stop us from making gingerbread houses, baking sweet treats or watching a Christmas parade. Whatever you decide to do this holiday season, enjoy the company with your family and it’s sure to be a good time.
