Hot Wells Shooting Range Closed Indefinitely After Shooting

Joshua Cummings was shot and killed on Dec. 12 when a weapon an employee was working on in a nearby building acidentally discharged

HOUSTON, TX — A northwest Houston shooting range that was the scene of an accidental shooting that claimed the life of a 36-year old man is closed indefinitely.

Joshua Cummings was in the parking lot of the Hot Wells Shooting Range in Cypress on Dec. 12, when he was accidentally shot and killed by a range employee who was servicing a hunting rifle in an adjoining building.

Cummings was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, and died a short time later.

Hot Wells Shooting Range, located on U.S. 290 East and Barker Cypress, posted on their Facebook page recently indicating they would remain closed for the foreseeable future, and thanking everyone for their prayers.

Sheriff's investigators examined the weapon to determine if there was a malfunction, or if the weapon went off because of human error.

The case has since been referred to a Harris County Grand Jury for consideration

Meanwhile, the day after the shooting, friends of the Cummings family set up a YouCaring page to raise money for funeral expenses, that has raised just over $82,000 since Dec. 13.

Cummings, who was employed by CenterPoint Energy left behind his wife, Kathleen, and their children, which are triplets.
