Houston Area Under Tornado Watch Until Midnight

Active Weather warnings expired north of Houston at 9:30 p.m., but tornado warnings remained in effect until midnight, 1 a.m. in some areas.

At 7:05 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch until midnight for residents in Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, San Jacinto, and Waller Counties.

Residents in these counties are advised to take cover and shelter in place.

Officials with the National Weather Service detected tornadic activity in Waller County and Montgomery County, though there were no reports of a tornado touching down.

Heavy rain was reported in Waller County, southern Grimes County and northern Montgomery County early Friday evening.

At 9 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunder storm warning until 1 a.m. for residents in Polk, San Jacinto, Austin and Colorado Counties.
