Here are the top stories in Houston today:

  1. The 69th annual Pink Elephant sale invites yard-pickers and antique-lovers alike to Houston's oldest rummage sale. Organizer Pat Wallace has collected items for nearly two years for the sale. The sale will include clothes and furniture for all kinds of price ranges including high-end items like mink coats as well as $2 takeaways. Additionally, all money earned during the sale is promised to stay within the Houston community. The event takes place today and Saturday at Bayou City Event Center and will host free parking. Admission tickets will run you just a single dollar. (KHOU.com)
  2. Cannabis-infused food is coming to a neighborhood near you in an upscale dining environment that's a far cry from baking pot brownies in your parent's kitchen. Wild opens its second location in Montrose this coming Monday and will offer patrons the choice to dose their food with low quantities of THC or CBD. Menu items include international coastal cuisine with a Latin spin including options like migas, a wagyu beef tomahawk, bluefin tuna belly, and even caviar. Additionally, fan-favorite cocktails found at Wild Heights will be available with cannabis dosing options to boot. (Eater Houston)
  3. Fort Bend County Animal Services (FBCAS) are waiving adoption fees and delivering pets to your doorstep from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31. FBCAS is putting on the aptly named "Doggy Dash" or "Kitty Cab" event amid extreme overcrowding at their shelter. Interested parties can call in to the shelter with inquiries about animals they wish to adopt. At the moment, the shelter has 178 dogs and 40 cats in need of an immediate home. All adopted animals will already be spayed, neutered, chipped, and have all of their shots. 4. Halloween is just around the corner, and Houston has ghost tours galore where Houstonians can catch their seasonal heebie-jeebies. In the museum district, Houston Ghost Tours offers a tour of Hermann Park where you can learn about all the haunted spirits that still prowl the park's grounds. The Nightly Spirits Houston Ghost Tour Pub Crawl provides a waltz around the downtown area where you can engage in the spooky history of multiple downtown bars and hotels alike while enjoying a spirit, or more, in hand. For the whole family, there's also the Dark History All-Ages Ghost Walk that kicks off at haunted Hotel Icon and is sure to have kids sleeping in bed with mom and dad like their babes reborn. (Houstonia Magazine)
  5. George Floyd's drug arrest tied to disgraced HPD officer Gerald Goines was denied pardon according to his public defender. Floyd was the victim of graphic police brutality caught on camera by a police officer in Minneapolis who kneeled on his neck until he died. The incident sparked nationwide outrage nearly two years ago. District Attorney Kim Ogg had previously concluded that Floyd's drug arrest by Goines was likely illegitimate. However, Floyd's previous crime has now failed to have been pardoned, indicating that police believe the arrest was rightfully made. The arrest is a key piece of the narrative that Floyd had a past criminal record. (ABC13)
