🌱 Houston & Dragons + Craft Festivals + BBQ Ramen

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Houston.

(Patch Media)

Wake up, Space City! It's me, Chris, your humble servant of the Houston Daily — coming right back at you with the plug on what's happening. Today, we'll look at:

  • The local Dungeons & Dragons takeover.
  • Upcoming arts and crafts festivals.
  • The future of Houston ramen.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 89 Low: 71.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Houston who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Houston Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Houston:

  1. Popularized in part by the success of Netflix's "Stranger Things," Dungeons & Dragons is a growing game that has begun to leave a footprint on the Houston area. First published in 1974, Dungeons & Dragons' nearly 50-year history has seen no shortage of bumps in the road, including claims that the game was a gateway to satanic worship. Despite this, the tabletop role-playing game has grown to greater heights than it has ever seen before. If you're curious about being the hero of your very own adventure, you can drop in and play at locations across Houston including Asgard Games, Golem's Gate, and Coral Sword. However, the most accessible option of all is to join a game with Circle of Barhaven: a company that hosts games in bars across the Houston metropolitan area. To learn more, visit their website. 2. Handmade goods are more precious than ever in the modern age of online shopping, and Houston provides those in the know with all kinds of opportunities to buy them. There are fairs and festivals taking place every weekend where you can find quality arts and crafts from aspiring local artists. Reliable options include Eleanora's Market taking place every Saturday at Cavatore Italian Restaurant, and the Market at Sawyer Yards held on the second Saturday of every month. Beyond that, Flea by Night at Discovery Green, the Bayou City Art Festival in downtown Houston, and ARToberFEST in Galveston are all coming up soon. For more details on dates and times, check the link. (KPRC Click2Houston)
  3. The senior vice president of popular Montrose restaurant Ramen Tatsu-ya shared details on the company's plans for further growth in Houston. Ramen Tatsu-ya was first founded in Austin about a decade ago and established its Houston location five years later. Now, they're looking to up the local ramen game with an idea called BBQ Ramen Tatsu-ya, which seeks to merge the best of barbecue and ramen into a fine dining experience. Taking a note out of Marvel's business plan, Vice President Shion Aikawa said, "We ask ourselves, 'what can we do with ramen that we haven't done before.' I would say this one is our first foray into a possible multiverse of ramen." (CultureMap Houston)
  4. U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm stopped by Houston yesterday and spoke with local officials about the power of geothermal energy. Under President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, $84 million will be invested into Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) demonstration projects in order to determine the potential of the energy source. A discussion about the energy source was held at the Ion: a location for bright new ideas to be shared among venture capitalists, academics, and other interested parties. (KPRC Click2Houston)
  5. Project Artemis may be a long way from putting men on the moon again, but when it does the astronauts involved will be wearing spacesuits crafted in Space City. Houston-based company Axiom Space just won the rights to crafting the spacesuits for the Artemis III mission which will put humans on the moon for the first time since the Apollo missions that took place a half century ago. The total value of NASA's order came in at $228.5 million. That's not too shabby for a single business transaction. (ABC13)
