Houston FD Announces Kickoff Date For Toy Drive

'Operation Stocking Stuffer' kicks off Nov. 15.

(City of Houston)

City of Houston: The Houston Fire Department is excited to announce the kickoff for our annual toy drive. We invite you to join us to help bring some holiday joy to thousands of Houston area children in need. With the help of our sponsors including: Shell, PODS of Houston, KPRC Channel 2, New Light Christian Center, Entercom Radio, the University of Houston and many others, Houston Firefighters work to collect and distribute toys and gifts to families suffering through hard times. For many years now, HFD along with business and community volunteers have worked together for one of the largest holiday toy drives in the City of Houston. The history of this toy drive dates back to a Houston school teacher, Lorugene Young, and her legacy lives on. This year, our goal is higher than ever. In 2018 Operation Stocking Stuffer provided toys and gifts to more than 6,000 families but there are still more families in need. That's why our goal in 2019 is to assist between 7,000-10,000 families (up to 30,000 children) and we can reach that goal with your help.

HFD's Operation Stocking Stuffer will kick off on Friday, November 15 at 6:00 a.m. with an event at HFD Fire Station #37 (7026 Stella Link). KPRC Local 2 will be broadcasting from Station 37 during their news reports that day starting at 6:00 a.m. Although the kick-off event is scheduled for that specific station, toys can be dropped off at any HFD Fire Station from November 15 through December 17, 2019. The toy giveaway event will be held December 21 at the New Light Christian Center located at 7317 E. Houston Road beginning at 8:00 a.m.
