Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner Tests Positive For COVID-19

Turner, who released a statement Friday afternoon, said he decided to get tested because he wasn't feeling well overnight.

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, the mayor announced in a statement posted to Twitter. Turner said he is experiencing mild symptoms.

"I was not feeling well overnight and thought I was suffering from allergies or a sinus infection, so I decided to get tested before starting my daily schedule," he said in the statement.

Turner said he plans to rest while isolating for the next several days. He also canceled all weekend events.
