Houston PD Charge Suspect In Fatal Shooting

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of a woman that occurred at 2909 Hayes Road about 1:15 p.m. on January 4

Suspect Brandon Deonte Cooks (b/m, 26) is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 232nd State District Court. A November 2019 booking photo of Cooks is attached to this news release.

One victim, Brian Spencer, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, Tracy Spencer, 39, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Officers T. Jackson and J. Young reported:

Both victims were sitting in a parked vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot at the above address when they were approached by a black male suspect in his late teens to early 20s. The suspect, wearing a gray hoodie and red shorts, discharged a gun several times, striking both victims. The suspect then fled on foot through the apartment complex. Paramedics pronounced Mr. Spencer deceased at the scene and transported Ms. Tracy Spencer to the hospital.

Further investigation led to the identification of Cooks as the suspected shooter, and last Thursday (Feb. 13), he was charged in this case.
