Houston Seeks Local Artists For Mini Mural Project
The Houston area is home to about 170 mini murals that are seen on buildings, traffic cabinets and bridges in various communities.

HOUSTON, TX — Calling all artists.
The city of Houston is looking to add splashes of vibrant color to the drab urban landscape this fall, with the addition of more mini murals in various communities in the Houston area.
There are about 170 of these public murals in Houston painted on the sides of buildings, bridges and traffic control panels.

The city hopes to add 38 more of these on traffic control cabinets in Acres Homes, Central Southwest, East End, Gulfton, Heights, Near Northside, Second Ward and Third Ward, KTRK reported. The mini murals project was created and managed by Elia and Noah Quiles of UP Art Studio, which has partnered with The City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Public Works & Engineering, city council members, management districts, and others to make this traffic signal control cabinet mural program possible.

UP Art Studios is conducted an open call to all artists in the Houston area, and have a posting online that outlines the criteria, project planning and any stipend the artists will receive.
Interested artists should submit their qualifications and work samples, as well as letter of intent, and previous work experience with their application.
The open call deadline to submit your application is Aug. 11, and all artists will be notified of results by Aug. 31.
