As the greater Houston area emerge from the flood, there will be a lot of opportunities to make improvements upon what the city was. Soon, there will a lot of discussions covering a broad range of subjects and proposals. One of the most exciting and promising opportunities imaginable is for the animal rescue community. This is the perfect opportunity to lay the ground work to put Houston on the path towards becoming a sustained "NO-KILL" city.
In a manner of speaking, Hurricane Harvey has pressed the reset button giving animal rescue communities within a hundred mile radius an opportunity to reflect on their futures. The question is, will they choose to look backwards and try to rebuild what they had? Or, will they take this opportunity to seek and adopt new methods and strategies to save the lives of animals. For the animal shelters, pet rescues, stray cat alliances and trap-neuter-releases who choose to look forward, the future could not be brighter.
