Houston's Winter Storm: Ice Blankets Houston's Roadways
Schools and municipal offices north of Houston to Galveston are closed as icy roads, sleet, and snow grip the Houston area

HOUSTON, TX — The arctic front that forced schools and businesses to close on Tuesday is expected to freeze over the rain-slicked roads that resulted from the rain that came in ahead of the freezing temperatures onvernight.
The high of about 52 degrees happened at about 1 a.m., with temperatures plummeting into the low 30s and into freezing in areas north of Houston in just a few hours.
Most awakened to teperatures in the upper 20s at about 5 a.m.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday for residents living in:
Austin-Brazos-Burleson-Colorado-Grimes-Harris-Houston-Liberty- Madison-Montgomery-Polk-San Jacinto-Trinity-Walker-Waller- Washington- Including the cities of Bellville, Brenham, Brookshire, Bryan, Caldwell, Cleveland, Coldspring, College Station, Columbus, Conroe, Corrigan, Crockett, Dayton, Eagle Lake, Groveton, Hempstead, Houston, Humble, Huntsville, Katy, Lake Somerville, Liberty, Livingston, Madisonville, Navasota, Onalaska, Pasadena, Prairie View, Sealy, Shepherd, The Woodlands, Tomball, Trinity, Weimar, and Willis until midnight Tuesday.

On Monday, school districts opted to close well ahead of the arctic front.

City offices in Conroe, Huntsville, Willis, Tomball, Magnolia, Cleveland are closed, as are the court dockets in Houston, Galveston, Fort Bend, Waller, Pasadena and Montgomery County.
The freezing temperatures ushered in reports of sleet and snow flurries in The Woodlands, Spring and Conroe and areas north of downtown.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing all day Tuesday and into eary Wednesday.
